The Ollies will start the No.4 Corvette C6.R in second place on the GT1 grid. It's all very close though between all three cars. Jan Magnussen recorded the fastest time, a 2m 00.973s lap with Olivier very close behind in 2m 01.159s. The Maserati is also only 1 second behind pole, Didier Theys setting a 2m 01.978s lap. It's going to be a close one!! The two Corvettes went out at the start of the qualifying session and duly completed 4 laps before coming back into the pits. This time it was Jan who was fastest, by just under two tenths of a second. Didier Theys in the Maserati waited until halfway through the session before taking to the track. The Corvette drivers watched intently as he gradualy reduced his time. It is the first time that they have had competition in the ALMS since Sebring. Didier did a great job getting closer and closer to the times of the Corvettes. Just before the end of the session he recorded his fastest time, only a second off pole and three quarters of a second away from Olivier. "It's great to have some competition," Oliver said. "I hope this persuades Aston Martin to come and play again. It shows that other teams can be competitive." The race is a four hour one, starting at 4.00 pm local time, that's 10.00 pm in the UK. Coverage is available at www.americanlemans.com and the race wil be televised delayed by Motors TV on Monday at 9.00 pm. |
