Oliver and Olivier returned to winning form in the ALMS race at Detroit, effectively the team's home race, pushing teammates Jan Magnussen and Johnny O'Connell back into second. The GT1 class has been an interteam battle throughout the season with the crew of the No.4 Corvette C6.R lacking the benefit of Lady Luck in recent races. The pattern was reflected in qualifying at Detroit with conditions better suiting No.3 and Jan motoring to another class pole position.
However, the race saw the retun of fortune to the Olliies. Oliver had fought his way through the front rummers of GT2 field in the early stages and was right behind Jan when they came in for their first pit stop. Drivers were changed and a quicker stop for No.4 saw Olivier come back out in the lead.
Throughout the rest of the race battle was intense, the gap between the two cars opening and closing, and it was Oliver in the final session who set the fastest lap, over three seconds better than his qualifying time. Oliver had opened a gap from Jan when a safety car period 16 minutes from the end came at a time when the overall race leader was between the two Corvettes. This gave Oliver nearly a lap lead over Jan and victory was assured.
"It's been a rough season for us, but if you're going to win anywhere, Detroit is the one you want to win," said Olly. "Everybody on the team was very focused on this event, and it was a hard, close race for many laps. I have to thank all of the guys on the No. 4 Corvette C6.R - they've worked brilliantly over the last few events. I haven't been so kind to this car, I've had some incidents and accidents, but they've fixed it fantastically. (Crew chief) Mike West and (engineer) Steve Cole have worked magic, setting up the car and getting it good for the races. We've been fast in every event, and finally it's all fallen into place for the No. 4 Corvette."
