"To get the final GT1 victory in the American Le Mans Series yesterday was great and both Olivier and I will have our names in the record books for securing that, which is special. GT1 as a class has been fantastic for both of us, and we've really enjoyed driving the cars. Personally I feel that the Corvette's GT1 car configuration, and the class regulations, were some of the best in the series. They are very recognisable as cars for the road; powerful, fast , make a lot of noise and look exciting on the track. The Corvette is also a very energetic car, moving around a lot which adds to the visual drama. I'm very sad to see it go - GT1 has been a fantastic class.
"The Long Beach race yesterday was a little unusual as it was only 100 minutes long, one pit stop only, the timing of which was critical to make sure both drivers in the car had a good shot on the tyre we'd been given. As it turned out, the # 3 car had a puncture early on in the race and they were able to come in and quickly change to medium tyres. They were then catching Olivier very fast on the track as he was struggling on the soft tyres which were going away. It was a case then of getting him through to that magic lap so I could get in to finish race. The timing had to be right for the tyres to work and also have enough fuel for the end of the race.
"As it turned out only 5 or 6 laps after my stint started, the #3 car pulled over to the side of the track with transmission failure so we never got the chance to battle each other. I had been looking forward to another epic battle with Jan as it's always very close between us and we enjoy racing against each other, but it wasn't to be. We'll bottle that up for Le Mans and see what happens there.
"Yesterday after qualifying it was very nice of the Series to pay a special tribute to Corvette Racing and its contribution to GT1 by having a special ceremony around the podium area. Lots of pictures were taken with Scott Atherton [CEO of the ALMS] and Mr Bibendum [from Michelin] and Scott said some very nice words about all our results and achievements over the years. Doug Fehan also said some nice things about all the people involved and drivers past and present over the whole 10 years Corvette has been in GT1 which has now come to a close in the ALMS. Our final race in the car will be at Le Mans in June which I am sure will be fantastic but at the same time a bit sad as it will be the end of an era."
