2006 MID OHIO PREVIEW

Lexington Ohio is the venue for the next round of the American Le Mans Series as the teams visit the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.  The race on Sunday starts at 12.00 noon local time, that's 5.00 pm UK time, and lasts for 2 hours 45 minutes.  In the UK there is live TV coverage on Motors TV and live timing and scoring and radio commentary at www.americanlemans.com.

The crew of the No.4 Compuware Corvette C6.R come into this race on the back of 7 straight ALMS GT1 wins but will find it tough to maintain that winning streak against the strong competition of their sister No.3 Corvette and the two Aston Martin DBR9s.  Last year at Mid Ohio the No.4 car crossed the line first having taken over the lead at the final pit stop.  However, as one of the crewmen didn't have his goggles down during that stop they were given a 20 second penaty, handing the win to the No.3 car.

Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell have won the class at every ALMS race at the circuit and will be very tough to beat.  The Aston Martins should also find conditions to their liking and their weight advantage is likely to bring their first ALMS win of the season within reach.

Mid-Ohio is close to the factory for Corvette Racing and is therefore very much a 'home race'.  "That adds special atmosphere," Oliver pointed out. "With so many friends and family of the team here it does feel special.  We want to do well in front of our 'home crowd'!  The track here is lovely and the Corvettes always go well here.  Our target, as ever, is a Corvette 1-2 but it is getting increasingly tough to do that against the Astons with our 175lb weight penalty.

"We're also all concious of Le Mans just around the corner.  The test day is ony two weeks away with the race just four weeks.  Le Mans, the World's greatest sportscar race, is always the highlight of the season and we are keen to do well again there.  We'll get Mid-Ohio under our belts and then head across the water to France!"
