OLIVER SECURES GT1 WIN AT SEBRING

Oliver brought the No.4 Compuware Corvette C6.R home to take the GT1 class at the 2007 12 Hours of Sebring.  With fellow drivers Olivier Beretta and Max Papis, he crossed the line 17 seconds ahead of Jan Magnussen in the No.3 sister car.  It was Oliver's fourth class win at the sportscar classic as he and Olivier start out on their quest to retain their ALMS GT1 driver's championship.

Jan Magnussen, now driving the No.3 Corvette with Johnny O'Connell and Ron Fellows had secured pole position in qualifying.  The team created a surprise for all the fans transforming the traditional Velocity Yellow C6.R to Arctic White in recognition of the contribution of Ron Fellows, who is driving the No.3 only in the endurance events this year.  GM introduced a white special edition Z06 last year to honour Ron and having a white No.3 C6.R take to the grid at Sebring reinforced that tribute.

Ron started in the No.3 with Oliver in the yellow No.4 following.  The only other GT1 runner, the Team Modena Aston Martin DBR9 couldn't maintain the pace of the Corvettes and soon dropped back.  However, that did not diminsh the competition with the two Corvettes fighting hard throughout the 12 hours of the race.  The two cars traded fastest lap times as the gap between them opened and closed again throughout.

At the third round of regular pit stops Max Papis drove a strong in lap in the No.4 and with Oliver achieving an amazing out lap - quicker than his qualifying lap but with a full tank of fuel - the No.4 managed to get ahead of their teammates.  They were to remain in that order for the rest of the race.

"The Corvette C6.R was a joy to drive all day, and there wasn't a single thing that went wrong," confirmed Oliver. "The team performed fantastically, and there wasn't one misstep on any of the pit stops.

"To finish with less than 20 seconds between the two cars after 12 hours of racing is quite remarkable," he noted. "You can't get a stronger test than 12 hours at Sebring, and we've come through with flying colors."
