Daytona Qualifying Disappointment

It’s been great coming back to Daytona for race week as the atmosphere is building day-by-day and there’s such a terrific field of drivers and entries that you can feel the excitement growing, both in and out of the track.

Yesterday was qualifying for the weekend’s 24 Hour race and, to be honest, it was a difficult day for us in the Banner Racing’s No. 07 THECOOLTV/KWL Trucking/EMC Chevrolet Camaro – we’d been hoping for better things.  We’d had such a good test here a couple of weeks ago and this week has been a bit frustrating for everyone.

We were unfortunate to be held back yesterday by some mechanical and electrical issues with the car, which didn’t allow all four of us as much track time as we’d have liked, but everyone at LRPG is working very hard to get things straightened out for the race.  We’ve put in a new engine and suspension uprights and we’ll test those out in this morning’s practice.

Our focus now will be on the race itself and making sure that the car is as good and drivable as possible to last twice-round-the-clock.  Remember that the fastest cars are not always the winners; we have to be quick, consistent and clever, stay out of trouble and therefore out of the garage.  Anything’s possible in these longer endurance races.

The Camaro is still very new to the LRPG-run team as they only took delivery of it in December so they haven’t had as much time to prepare for such a big event as they’d have liked.  I think for Daytona we’ve got to make the best of what we can do and work towards Homestead.
