The 14 members of the British Racing Drivers Club who took part in April’s Virgin London Marathon are still on a high from their exploits. Not only did several of them, including Olly, exceed personal records in terms of running time, but they have also collectively raised £100,000 for the CLIC Sargent charity – more than doubling the original target. International sports car driver, Oliver Gavin, of Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire today completed the Virgin London Marathon in a time of 2 hours 54 minutes and 20 seconds, setting a new personal best time and also helping to raise over £88,000 for the CLIC Sargent children’s cancer charity. Oliver Gavin lining up for a busy racing year
The flag is ready to drop for the start of a busy racing year for Northamptonshire-based Oliver Gavin. Not only is Oliver just about to leave his home in Yardley Hastings for the United States to take part in the American Le Mans Series season-opening 12 hour race in Sebring, Florida, but he’s also approaching the final stages of training for April’s Virgin London Marathon. As many of you will know I am running the London Marathon once again. The challenge is a great focus for maintaining a good level of fitness, but the event is incredibly important to many charities. It is a valued opportunity to raise money that simply can’t be missed.
This year I have managed to persuade a few British Racing Driver Club (BRDC) members to join me. After only a little arm twisting we have formed team of 14 to run for the lead charity for the first Virgin London Marathon. Read more →
