Encouraging test at Le Mans completed

Oliver ended the official Le Mans Test Day on Sunday, 3rd June by posting the fastest GTE-Pro time in the afternoon session and was only edged to second overall in the combined morning/afternoon session by just under a tenth of a second.

His fastest time of 3:58.971 was quicker than last year’s qualifying time, and bodes well for the 24 Hour race in two weeks. Read more →

The 17 Hours of Le Mans!

The two yellow and black Corvettes in the pits

Well, what a race and where do I start?  With Corvette Racing’s No. 73 winning the 24 Hours – and many congratulations to Olivier, Antonio and Tommy – and with our disappointing finish, it was definitely a race of highs and lows and we managed almost three quarters of the event. Read more →

The Long/Short week of Le Mans

The official team shot after scrutineering at Le Mans

Well here we are and I can’t believe it’s Friday already; it’s been a little bit manic and crazy and the days have just gone by so quickly.  It seems only a few hours ago rather than Sunday that I was getting on the plane with Antonio [Garcia] from Watkins Glen to Paris, then on the train from Charles de Gaulle to come here to Le Mans.

Le Mans Road Trip – in full

Olly has written up his road trip to Le Mans in the Corvette ZR1 for GM Europe so here it is for your enjoyment!

For years I’ve watched as racing friends from other manufacturer-led teams have arrived at Le Mans in a variety of cars representing the huge number of entrants at the world’s most famous sports car.   From Aston Martins to BMWs to Audis to Porsches, I’ve watched enviously as there simply weren’t enough Corvettes available in Europe for all of us drivers to benefit in the same way. Le Mans Test Day – with a difference

This year’s test day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans was held on Easter Sunday and it was a day with a bit of a difference. Corvette Racing’s four full-season American Le Mans Series drivers – Olly, Jan Magnussen, Olivier Beretta and Tommy Milner – used a Larbre Competition C6R instead of their own cars which were busy being prepared back at Pratt & Miller’s Indianapolis base. Brave Effort At Le Mans Comes To An End

Reluctantly, Oliver was forced to pull over the 64 Corvette and retire from the 78th Le Mans 24 Hours.  Accident damage following a heavy impact in the 17th hour had been repaired and Olly had rejoined the race but it was not to last.

Emmanuel Collard was tipped into a spin by a prototype car whilst leading the GT2 category and had managed to get back to the pits.  The team only lost around 8 laps while repairs to the rear end were made.  Olly rejoined the race and set some amazing lap times as he fought to regain some of the lost ground.  However, the damage had taken it’s toll and he was ultimately forced to pull the car over.

We’ll post a full report later.

Le Mans 16 Hour Report (updated at 18 hours)

No.64 Corvette leads from no.63 Corvette and no.77 Porsche.  The brilliant crew on the 64 car take a slightly extended stop to change brake pads.  Then there suddenly a problem for the 63 car.  Antonio Garcia has stopped on the run down to Indianapolis.  An engine problem has brought their race to an end.

Then it’s the 64 car’s turn to strike problems.  As a prototype car overtook Manu Collard in the Porsche curves he was spun into the barriers – a heavy impact which has created significant damage to the rear end of the car.

He bravely gets the car going again and makes his way slowly back to the pits andf the crew set about repairing it – but it will put the car some way down the field.

Olly sets off again, they lost about 7 laps and are now down in 5th.  Still 6 hours to go ……………..

Le Mans 12 Hour Report

It is probably the early hours of Sunday morning at Le Mans that are the hardest for the drivers.  The darkness is intense and many cars are taking advantage of the cool night to triple stint their tyres.  The no.64 Corvette C6.R has maintained it’s GT2 class lead as the three drivers take it in turns to complete nearly three hours of relentless running.

Their principle competition at this stage of the race is the sister no.63 Corvette with the 77 Porsche in third.
