Oliver Gavin Biography

British racing driver, Oliver Gavin, a four-time American Le Mans Series Champion, became a five-time class winner in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans during his his 14th consecutive season under the Corvette Racing banner in 2015.

Born on 29 September, 1972 in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire (UK), Gavin is married to Helen and has a daughter, Lily, and two sons, Isaac and Fergus. In his spare time he runs marathons and in 2010 completed the London event in 2h54m19s, helping to raise £100,000 for charity.

The Northamptonshire-based driver started racing as a teenager in Karting, competing in various national series before making a name for himself in cars in 1990.

He won the coveted McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year in 1991 and has since gone on to become a consistent podium finisher in various championships around the world.

Having tested for major Formula 1 teams, including Benetton and Renault, he notably drove the Grand Prix Safety Car during the 1998 & ‘99 seasons.

In his spare time, Gavin is a keen marathon runner, completing the 2010 London in 2h54m and raising £100,000 for charity.

  • Bathurst 12 Hours with Rotek and V8 Supercar endurance races with Walkinshaw Racing, 3rd in Bathurst 1000

Le Mans: 4th in LMGTE Pro

2013

AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES (ALMS):

  • With Corvette Racing, teamed with Tommy Milner plus Richard Westbrook for endurance races – winner 12H Sebring and CTMP, 3rd in Drivers Championship
  • Rolex 24 at Daytona in a Spirit of Daytona Corvette Daytona Prototype – 5th overall

Le Mans: 7th in GTE Pro, delayed after prototype hit Westbrook and damaged exhaust

2012

AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES / GRAND AM:

  • With Corvette Racing, teamed with Tommy Milner plus Richard Westbrook for endurance races
  • GT Drivers’ Champion ALMS
  • 1st at Long Beach, Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio and VIR
  • Rolex 24 at Daytona in a Spirit of Daytona Corvette Daytona Prototype – 5th overall

Le Mans: Led for first 10 hours, gearbox and other technical issues put #74 out of the race

2011

AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES / GRAND AM / AUSTRALIAN V8 SUPERCARS:

  • ALMS GT2 with Jan Magnussen – 2nd in Drivers Championship
  • 1st at Mosport and 2nd at Long Beach and Mid Ohio
  • Grand-Am with Banner Racing in a Camaro – 8 races inc.Daytona 24; 2nd at Barber and VIR
  • Debut in Aussie V8 Series in invitational Gold Coast 600 – two top six places

Le Mans: Led for nearly 17 hours but had to retire following accident when Magnussen was at wheel.

2010

AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES:

  • ALMS with Corvette Racing in GT2 – 5th in Drivers’ championship.
  • Winner, with Magnussen/Collard, at Petit Le Mans
  • 2nd at Mid Ohio
  • 3rd at Laguna Seca

Le Mans: Was comfortably leading the GT class in the 24 Hrs Le Mans
when a rare engine failure in the 19th hour put him out of the race.

2009
