This weekend sees the 10th running of Petit Le Mans, the 1000 mile or 10 hour sportscar endurance race at Road Atlanta that has rapidly become a classic. Oliver goes into the race looking for his 4th Petit victory in the GT1 class, this year sharing the No.4 Compuware Corvette with Olivier Beretta and Max Papis.
Oliver confirmed; "In its short life Petit Le Mans has become one of the great sportscar races in North America. I love coming here and I hope that we can pull off another win for the team of the No.4 car. The track is fast and demanding and this year has been resurfaced in some parts. This has added to the grip levels which are now consistent around the track. We recently completed some tyre tests here and were very pleased with the results. It should be a good weekend."
Oliver and Olivier are up against their teammates in the No.3 Corvette as well as the returning Lister Doran Maserati of Fredy Lienhard, Didier Theys and Andrea Bertolini. However, with a 32 point lead, all Olly and Olivier need to do is complete 70% race distance to score enough points to win their third straight ALMS GT1 Driver's Championship.
Oliver's Corvette Racing teammate Johnny O'Connell will have a busy weekend at this, his home track. Every year Johnny holds an auction of memorabilia at the event to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association and a local adult day care centre. In the last six years Johnny estimates that they have raised an amazing 240,000 dollars. However Saturday will also be a special day for the O'Connell family when Johnny's 10 year old daughter sings the American National Anthem ahead of the start of the race!
The race starts on Saturday at 11.15 am local time, 4.15 pm in the UK. The whole race will be shown LIVE in the UK on Motors TV, coverage starting at 4.00 pm.
